This year we had the pleasure of participating in Vancouver’s yearly design show, IDS Vancouver. It’s been about five years since we were last in the show so we wanted to come back with an installation that would make a lasting impression. 2019 has been a big year for us. We’ve been growing our collection of commercial furniture, reimagining the Union Wood Co brand, and we're celebrating 10 years of business! IDS Vancouver was the perfect venue for us to celebrate everything in one spot with all of our clients and the design community.
Our booth wasn’t your typical 10’x 20’ box with samples and furniture on display. We worked with local designer Alyssa Lewis of Studio Block to come up with a concept that highlighted our vibe and our new minimalist aesthetic. She nailed it!
“Surrounded by wood in every stage of the making process from logs to offcuts to finished pieces, this installation is an interpretation of the Union Wood Co experience. The archway mimics the shape of the company’s Column Table and invites you to interact with it through touch and play, encapsulating the viewer in the scent of wood and comforting natural tones. From concept to execution this space is a visual expression of what makes Union Wood Co unique and a wonderful company to work with.” - Alyssa Lewis, Studio Block
The booth was constructed by our talented team of woodworkers. The arch structure was made in sections with metal supports and then wrapped in unfinished plywood. Running down the centre of the booth is the Column Oval Boardroom Table from our commercial furniture collection. The cylinder pendants hanging above the table were handmade to show off our five most popular wood finishes (check out our Materials page for more info). Below them is the corresponding wood shavings left over from their creation.
We’re really proud of our booth at IDS Vancouver and for all the hard work our shop and Studio Block put into creating it. Thank you to everyone who came out to the show their support and for all their kind words. Here’s to 10+ more years!
