We were fortunate to be invited to take part in a photo shoot for an upcoming magazine spot.  More details to come later but it was a great day of shooting both in the shop, and in some of our favourite clients spaces.

Just to keep you all posted, the crew from Union Wood Co is taking a glorious, long, Christmas Break!  We apologize if your furniture wont be finished before we go away, it will be ready shortly after.

One of our most recent clients approached us about documenting his experience of having a custom table made for his family.  He made himself available anytime we were selecting boards, making cuts or finishing his piece.  He turned out a handful of amazing photos(yes including these ones of Spence).  Check them out here

Our friends at Porchlight Press (plus Otis) enjoy their custom oak barn board porch swing. They wanted an ‘old’ porch swing for their entrance and we were able to source out some oak barn board that is over 100 years old! Keeping in mind they wanted a rustic country porch swing we preserved as much of the wood’s character as possible. Next time your in their neighbourhood drop by for a swing and check out our handy work.

A couple of days ago I got the invite to meet Heather, and check out her letterpress studio Porchlight Press.  It was inspiring to say the least.  Porchlights dedication to their craft and attention to detail blew me away.  Sourcing, reviving, and re-using turn of the century machines is one of their main focus points in business.  Instead of  speeding up production like every other print house, they are doing their best to slow things down.  Wedding invites, packaging, business cards are just a few of their specialties.  Stay tuned to their Facebook page and their website for more info and details.

This morning’s labour.  Creating textures on some combined steel & wood tables tops, then finishing them.  The beauty is in the details.

There is a lot of sad things that happened in the 90′s, and one of the ones that hurts the most is was the general dislike for neon.  Vancouver once had one of the highest number of neon signs per capita, with many of them being discarded to make way for vinyl and computer aided sign making shops.  Neon, the old fashion way, was made on hand welded frames.  Each bend and twist of the glass tubes is hand bent, following a strict pattern.

These old signs came from a service station in Eastern Washington.  Red tin frames, and a red-orange glow give these large signs great impact. Each letter of each sign is  24″ tall, and 24″ wide.

Letters can be re-arranged to spell OPEN, and well, use your imagination.
